Just Won an Award from Work?

What to Expect from a Commercial Framing Service

A commercial framing service or a framer are craftsmen that frame the likes of documents, certificates, art, keepsakes, etc. They could work for a workshop or crafts store, and some work freelance. There are numerous skills involved with picture framing, such as cutting materials, aesthetic design, measuring, stretching canvas, and meeting clients.

Picture framing is considered an unregulated profession, and most people that work in this industry obtain their skills via apprenticeships or by taking classes. Community colleges, craft centers, etc., which sometimes offer such workshops and classes. The day to day duties of a picture framer will greatly depend on the kind of work that needs to be completed. For simple jobs, the framer begins by talking to clients. Often, the client will have specific specifications, such as the size of the overall work, the color, and style of the framing etc. The framer will need to take all their clients desires into consideration, in addition to guiding their choices too.

For example, a mat color must enhance the art without ever overwhelming it. Which means the framer needs to be able to distinguish the temperature of the predominant hue, such as if it is warm or cool, and decide if a tint or shade complements the general color scheme. The style of the frame will also reflect the style of the artwork, an experienced framer should be able to provide several color and style options for their client.

Once they have met with their client, the framer will then assemble a pre-made picture frame or build one. A pre-made frame will often either be painted or stained, however, should they decide to build the frame from scratch, they are the one who is responsible for staining or painting it according to their client’s specifications.
